Meet the Breeders
Welcome to Cactus Rose Labradors! We’re Olivia and Kaden Laxson, the proud owners behind Cactus Rose Labradors. We’ve been together since high school, and over the years, we’ve built a life we love. We are now in Ratliff City, Oklahoma, and our new home sits on over 65 acres, including a stunning 10-acre lake, and is equipped with a dedicated space for our momma dogs and puppies. Our fast growing family is a big part of what makes our lives so special, and our five children are a crucial part of our puppy rearing process. And yes, you read that right! We currently have five little ones, all under the age of four, with our newest addition joining us in September of 2025! As a family, we cherish spending time outdoors, whether it's playing with our dogs, hunting, or enjoying the beauty of our land. We’re often seen in Crocs, covered in dog hair, and soaking up precious moments together. Our days start early and end late, but we wouldn’t change a thing. This is our dream life—spending quality time with our dogs, raising our children, and working hard to create a self-sufficient family homestead. Every day is an opportunity to improve and make life even better.
I (Olivia) also assist Kaden with another family business, but raising and caring for our dogs and puppies is my full-time passion. This is not a side hobby; this is my dedication and focus. While many breeders balance a full-time job outside the home, I’m able to devote my time entirely to the dogs. This means I can give each puppy the individual attention and care they deserve, from the moment they are born until they head to their new homes. The first eight weeks of a puppy’s life are critical, and I ensure that each one gets hands-on care, not just left in a kennel until they’re old enough to leave. Because raising puppies isn’t our primary source of income, we’re able to keep our prices lower than many other breeders, without sacrificing the quality and attention each puppy receives. We truly believe in providing you with more than just a puppy—we give you a well-socialized, well-cared-for companion that’s been loved and nurtured from day one. Thank you for considering Cactus Rose Labradors—we are truly blessed and excited to share our life and our puppies with you!
Puppy Information
The preparation starts long before puppies enter the world. Each litter is meticulously planned months, and occasionally years, in advance. We take our responsibility to every puppy seriously and strive to ensure their success in their new homes. To achieve this, we follow a proven process for planning, raising, and placing each puppy with their new family. Below, you'll find more detailed information about our approach.

The planning process...
Breeding a litter involves much more than simply pairing two dogs in your backyard and waiting for puppies to arrive. We carefully assess each of our dog's strengths and weaknesses to establish our goals for their next litter. Based on what we aim to enhance in the next generation of a particular female, we select an ideal male to complement her and our chances of achieving our objectives. While searching for the perfect stud, we consider not only our own males but also outside stud dogs owned by others, broadening our options. We encourage families to inquire about our intentions for specific litters, as we are always eager to discuss our passion for dogs and share our vision!
Once puppies arrive, the fun part begins!
After the puppies arrive, they usually remain in our bedroom for about two to three weeks. Once the puppies are past what we consider the "critical" phase, we then move them to the main part of our house. During their time with us, the puppy areas are cleaned multiple times a day, and the puppies are bathed as needed. We are very thorough as far as cleanliness goes, especially since these puppies live indoors! Frequent bath time/grooming also gets the puppies familiar with nail trimming and/or dremeling, the blow dryer, and the elevated grooming table.
From day one, the puppies are raised using different techniques such as the Puppy Culture program, the Rule of Sevens, ESI (early scent introduction), and some of our own training techniques to introduce gunfire, water (weather permitting), birds, and retrieving. All puppies are socialized with our other dogs and young children, and are raised in our busy, sometimes chaotic, household. To ensure proper placement, puppies are also temperament tested prior to go home using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test. If you are not familiar with these, click below to learn more:

Reserving a Puppy
We do not take deposits, but instead keep a waiting list. This list is separated in to color/gender preferences. It is $100 to get on our waiting list, and it is not refundable. (Note: The wait list fee goes towards the total price of your puppy). If you have any preferred litters you are interested in, this will be noted as well next to your name on our list, and I will do my best to accommodate these preferences. To be added to the list, you first must submit an application and be approved. No one will be allowed to reserve their spot on our list without us receiving and approving their puppy questionnaire first. *Please Note: We reserve the right to refuse the placement of apuppy with any prospective owner at any time, for any reason we deem necessary.*

Once a litter is born that we think may have a puppy that is a good match for you, we will contact you. This is not us promising you a puppy, only letting you know we MAY have one for you.

Once the puppies have reached seven weeks of age, we will contact you if we believe a puppy in the litter will be a good fit for your family. At this time, if you are interested, we will schedule a time for you to come meet the puppies and potentially take one home. If we do not believe one of the puppies will be a good fit, we will keep you on our wait list and go through the same process with you when we have another litter coming up. We do ask that you understand that while we try to honor the order each family was added to the wait list and offer a puppy to the families at the top of the list first, it doesn't always work out that way. We reserve the right to contact someone further down the list than you if we have a puppy that will be a match for them. Please remember, if at any time you do not wish to wait any longer for us to have a puppy we believe will be the best fit for you, you may request to be removed from the list find another breeder. Good things come to those who wait, but we aren't going to force you to wait! It is more important to us that our puppies end up in the right home instead of placing them with the first home readily available.

Puppies are either picked up at eight or nine weeks of age. We will schedule pickups in 30 minute time intervals and go over paperwork with the new puppy family, as well as answer any questions they may have. The pickup age varies from litter to litter and sometimes can even vary from puppy to puppy. It is all dependent on our picking process for what we are keeping from the litter. We often have show handlers, service dog organizations, and our detection dog trainers we work with coming out to evaluate the puppies, so pickup age may vary depending on those processes. We will always be in contact when the the time comes.

After each puppy goes home, you have 48 hours to have a vet check performed by your veterinarian. Any abnormal findings will need to be reported to the breeder.

Payment: We will only accept the following payment methods: Walmart to Walmart transfer, invoice payment (can be completed with a debit or credit card), ApplePay, or cash. We will SOMETIMES take Zelle as well.

What we believe sets us apart
At Cactus Rose, our work goes beyond business; it’s a true passion. We are dedicated to improving this breed with every litter we produce and genuinely care about both our puppy buyers and the well-being of our pups. Unlike many who breed for profit, we are driven by our love for the breed and our dream to create lifelong companions. Each puppy is not just a sale for us; they are future family members, hunting buddies, show dogs, service dogs, or lifelong friends. We invest countless hours getting to know puppy personally and believe it is our responsibility to ensure they go to the best homes. If we feel a family isn't the right, we will decline the placement, as our dogs are cherished members of our family, and we want them to be equally loved in their new homes. Our goal is to find the perfect match rather than simply making a sale.
A look inside of Cactus Rose Labradors
At Cactus Rose Labradors, we are committed to bettering the breed. We strive to produce the best puppies possible, and in order to do so, you need strict breeding ethics and quality dogs from quality lineage. Below are the qualities we value most when planning each and every litter.
-
Health: The well-being of our puppies is our highest priority. We firmly believe that healthy puppies start with healthy parents. A vital part of ensuring our puppies' health involves conducting comprehensive health tests on all our breeding dogs. We not only assess each dog's individual results, but also examine their pedigrees and the health history of their ancestors. By selecting dogs from lines with a solid track record of health testing, we believe we give our puppies the best chance possible at a healthy life. We take pride in going above and beyond the standard testing many Labrador breeders perform, and we are always eager to incorporate new testing methods as they become available. It is crucial for us that our puppies enjoy long, healthy lives with their forever families!
-
Temperament: The hallmark of the Labrador breed is their temperament. When people think of a Labrador, they envision a joyful, friendly, and loyal companion. As preservation breeders, we are committed to breeding only dogs that possess the traditional Labrador temperament and ensuring that our puppies display the authentic personality traits of the breed. Through thoughtful selection of parent dogs in our breeding program and adherence to our established puppy-raising protocols, we consistently produce well-rounded, biddable, even-tempered puppies.
-
Conformation: Every breed has a written breed standard that defines the perfect example of that specific breed. As enthusiasts of the Labrador Retriever breed, we are dedicated to producing dogs that are conformationally correct. Although each puppy from a litter will not be a show prospect, by breeding to the standard, we are consistently producing puppies that are conformationally correct. Even if a potential owner is not looking for a show puppy, conformation is VERY important! Making sure a puppy is balanced and structurally sound is vital for the longevity and quality of the puppy's life. Puppies that are structurally sound have many benefits, including healthier joints, increased athletic performance, and overall better lives. No QUALITY breeder disregards conformation when breeding, and we are dedicated to producing puppies that are sound not only mentally, but physically as well.
-
Drive: The Labrador is a sporting breed. Therefore, an essential quality of the breed is the desire to RETRIEVE! While the Labrador is not meant to be a fire-breathing dragon of a retriever, they are still expected to possess the ability and desire to retrieve game efficiently. In order to stay true to the breeds intended purpose, we will NEVER keep a dog in our program that does not possess the drive to retrieve! However, an off switch in the house is something we believe is very important for a Labrador to possess, and we avidly breed for this quality in our program as well. We purposely select only dogs that show both drive in the field and calm, low energy in the house for our program, and this proves itself in the puppies we produce. You can expect a Cactus Rose puppy to be efficient in the field, and then cuddle up with you on the couch after the work is done.
-
Versatility: The Labrador is the most popular dog breed for numerous reasons, with its versatility being the primary one! Labs are renowned for their ability to thrive in various roles, including service and therapy work, bomb and cadaver detection, police duties, upland and waterfowl hunting, shed hunting, dock diving, agility, and more! The possibilities are endless with a Labrador! As fanciers of this fantastic breed, we have devoted our lives to producing a dog that will excel at anything, ESPECIALLY being a beloved family companion.
